How To Replace Your Florida Drivers License

If you wish to replace your license because it was destroyed, stolen or lost, you are requested to take action immediately to avoid getting a ticket or worst, a suspension. To help you with your concern, we provide you with useful links that will take you to several useful resources that can help you save time and get you going to the right direction.

Florida Driver’s License Replacement


Most individuals are able to replace their Florida drivers’ licenses online however, there are few exceptions like:

  • If you are not a citizen of the U.S.
  • If you are temporarily residing outside  Florida and is eligible to receive a 90-day temporary permit for free (by: writing to the Bureau of Records, calling (850) 617-2000, or by emailing the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles)


If you are not able to replace your Florida driver’s license online, you are requested to bring the following to the local DMV office:

  • Two documents proving residency
  • One proof of social security
  • One primary document
  • Pay the replacement fee


Acceptable Required Documents for a Florida Driver’s License Replacement:

  • All documents presented must be either certified original, certified amended original or true copies certified by the issuing agency


Primary Identification (any of the following):

  • Certified United States birth certificate (including territories and District of Columbia)
  • Valid United States Passport or Passport Card
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  • Certificate of Naturalization, Form N-550 or Form N-570
  • Certificate of Citizenship, Form N-560 or Form N-561
  • Proof of Social Security Number


Proof of Social Security Number (any of the following)

  • Social Security card (must be authentic with your current full name)
  • W-2 form (not handwritten)
  • Pay check/stub
  • SSA-1099
  • Any 1099 (not handwritten)
  • Proof of Residential Address (Internet printouts or faxes of these documents are acceptable)


You are also requested to bring two (2) different documents from the list:

  • Deed, mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, mortgage payment booklet or residential rental/lease agreement
  • Florida Voter Registration Card
  • Florida Vehicle Registration or Title
  • Florida Boat Registration or Title (if living on a boat/houseboat)
  • Statement from a parent, step-parent, legal guardian or other person with whom the applicant
  • Utility hook up or work order dated within 60 days of the application
  • Automobile Payment Booklet
  • Selective Service Card
  • Medical or health card with address listed
  • Current homeowner’s insurance policy or bill
  • Current automobile insurance policy or bill
  • Educational institution transcript forms for the current school year
  • Unexpired professional license issued by a government agency in the U.S.
  • Form DS2019, Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) status
  • A letter from a homeless shelter and must be accompanied with Certification of Address Form
  • Utility bills (not more than two months old)
  • Mail from financial institutions (including checking, savings, or investment account statements, not more than two months old)
  • Mail from Federal, State, County or City government agencies (including city and county agencies)
  • Transients – Sexual Offender/Predator/Career Offender: – FDLE Registration form
  • In addition to your proof of identity, you are requested to pay the applicable DMV motorist fees to replace your Florida driver’s license.

If  your license is stolen, you will need to report it as stolen to your local police department. You are eligible to replace your license or ID card by simply  bringing with you a copy of your police report when you show up at your local Florida DMV office.
